Unique country

I´m from Germany and I spent nearly half a year in Iceland. After I finished school I wanted to explore something new. I decided to work as an au-pair in Iceland. The Agency Ninukot found a friendly and lovely host family with three children. For me it was really difficult in the beginning to communicate with the two youngest children because they couldn’t speak English. That’s the reason why I took part in an Icelandic language school. It was a nice experience to learn the language with other people. In the end of my stay I was able to talk with the little children. I was faced with a new challenge almost every day, so it wasn’t easy all the time but I enjoyed every day. Ninukot helped me in different ways. For example they made it really easy for me to get in contact with other au-pairs or helped me out with an Icelandic ID number. It was important for opening a bank account or register for the gym. During my time I tried different ways to get in touch with natives to learn about the Icelandic culture. I played volleyball in a local sport club, spending time with the members of the family or just talked with the local guides during my trips. I used my spare time to meet new people from all over the world and explore with them the wonderful nature and fascinating places all over Iceland. As well I learned a lot about new cultures while spending time with other au-pairs. Iceland is a beautiful country. The nature is impressive. It doesn’t matter if you are here in winter or summer. It always looks unique. Long nights during the winter time with northern lights and long days in summer till the midnight sun.

I really enjoyed my time in Iceland and I defiantly come back one day.

Fascinating Iceland

After I had finished school, I was determined to go abroad for a while before starting studying.  I chose Ninukot, because I found just a few organisations which had such a huge and various offer of different jobs in Iceland like farmwork or jobs in restaurants and hotels.  Moreover, I thought that Iceland itself is very fascinating and I liked the idea to learn more about the culture and the life of this country, which I had never really heard a lot about.

Finally, I decided to do an Au Pair job, because I wanted to stay in a family, that I could learn the language and that I still have enough freetime for my hobbies.  And that is actually what happened.  I was quite lucky with my family and the kids and I spent a lot of time in doing sports or meeting people.

Therefore, Ninukot is a good opportunity to get to know other people, who also work in Iceland and see the different parts of this beautiful country.

Beyond One´s limit

I chose to go to Iceland as an Au Pair through Ninukot.  The most important reason for my decision was to learn about other cultures and to teach about my own.

I also knew it would be a big step towards becoming more independent, learn to know myself better, – and to really enjoy Iceland´s fascinating nature.  I often thought that I had reached my limits, but discovered that I had much great potential in developing my personality than I had thought possible.

Ninukot isn’t just an agency who arranges a job in Iceland, – Ninukot is a family. They helped all the time during my stay in Iceland, protecting me without managing me.  I enjoyed every day in Iceland, even if it wasn’t always easy.

That is why I wouldn’t change anything, and hopefully someday come back to Iceland.
